Perth is a popular spot for tourists travelling to Western Australia. The massive region of Western Australia has Perth as its capital; a thriving, buzzing metropolis. However, if you want something more intimate and off the beaten track, Avon Valley is a breath of fresh air and still close to Perth.

Avon Valley is well known for its multitude of outdoor activities. The weather in Avon Valley usually supports a range of water and air-borne adventures. There is much to do on the Avon River, including swimming, sailing and para-sailing. The Avon Descent is a renowned white water rafting event that takes place on the river.

There are also countless activities for the budding aero enthusiast. Gliding, skydiving and ballooning in Avon Valley can be restricted if there are gusty, turbulent conditions.

Alternatively, there are historic towns that can be visited on a self-drive tour through the Avon Valley. Swan about at Northam and view amazing wildlife (especially the graceful white swans) from the extended bridge. York is also a popular spot and has a number of notable cottages. New Norcia is enlightening with the only monastic village in Australia.
